Informal Advocacy

Sometimes it takes a lawsuit; sometimes it just takes a letter or phone call.

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires businesses and government entities to provide reasonable accommodations and effective communication for people with disabilities. Fox & Robertson provides pro bono – that is, free! – advocacy to explain the requirements of the ADA and to request accommodations and communications.

Here are some examples:

  • A letter to a doctor’s office to request a sign language interpreter for a Deaf patient.
  • A letter to a government agency to request a support services provider for a DeafBlind consumer for a training program.
  • A letter to a Denver theater to provide a sign language interpreter for a Deaf patron and a seating location that permitted her to see the interpreter.
  • A letter to a local jail to request interpreters and access to a videophone for a Deaf prisoner
  • A letter to a local hospital on behalf of a man who uses a wheelchair asking for accommodations in their room assignment and discharge policies.

In each case, the letter along with follow up calls or emails succeeded and our client received the accommodation or communication they needed.

If you need an interpreter, captioning, or other accommodation for an upcoming appointment or event, contact us. We may be able to help.
